Prepositions of place: in / on / under / next to
Prepositions of place tell us where something is.
in, on, under
Use in for inside something, on for a surface (on top of), and under for below something.
- •The keys are in the bag.
- •The book is on the table.
- •The cat is under the chair.
next to, between, behind, in front of
Use next to (= beside) for something near, between for the middle of two things, behind for the back, and in front of for the front.
- •The shop is next to the bank.
- •The car is in front of the house.
- •She sits between Tom and Anna.
