A Secret Plan

Maya had no idea what was coming. Her best friends, Sophie and Tom, had been planning her surprise birthday party for weeks. They decided to organize it at the Blue Cup Café, where Maya worked as a barista.

On the morning of her birthday, Sophie texted the group chat: "Everyone arrives at 6 p.m. Don't be late!" Tom had already spoken to the café manager, who agreed to close the café early. He decorated the space with blue and silver balloons while Maya was still at home.

When Maya arrived at work that afternoon, she noticed something strange. The café seemed quieter than usual, and her manager kept smiling mysteriously. At 6 p.m., Maya was wiping the counter when suddenly the lights went out. "Hello?" she called nervously.

Then the lights came back on, and everyone shouted "Surprise!" Maya's jaw dropped. There were twenty people—friends from school, her cousin, and even her grandmother, who had travelled two hours to be there. Her eyes filled with tears of joy.

Sophie hugged her tightly. "We couldn't let your birthday pass without celebrating you," she whispered. Maya realized that having such loyal friends was the best gift of all.
